they were bastards, my shipmates, and sons of bastards too.

i knew that before they wrapped me in chains. i knew that before the fire seared my lungs. i knew that before the fish nibbled my flesh.

i know it now

i am beyond bastardy now, a soul clad only in bone. never aging. never decaying. salted at the bottom of the sea; bone.

except that i am decaying

the nibbling has begun again. this time from the sands that drift over my bones. sands that whisper and gibber as they eat.

bastards.

when the sand is done eating my bones i’ll be free

to drift among the currents

and chase their cursed black souls from sea to sea

with a wrath to fill eternity
