created in god's Image?

July 2, 2007

the bible tells us god created all men and woman in HIS image.

conservative christians will tell you this is true (and take you to Genesis 1:27 [So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them] to prove it)

however, if you were to paint a picture of god and it looked like this ::

they would accuse you of blasphemy . . .

Hmmmmm. Spiritual image rather than visual image – otherwise we’d all look the same! And then when somebody told you they were God – you wouldn’t know whether they were Psycho nuts – or whether to actually believe them!

I’m not trying to be a clever arse, honest!

I’ve got a lot of time for Boy George – I read his biography ages ago – he had a rough time of it – and somehow survived through sheer bloody determination. There’s room for all sorts in my world! 🙂

Now there’s a god that I’d like to meet. And I don’t mean Boy George!

Why would God, who created gender, self-identify most commonly with the male / husband role? And while we’re at it, why would God identify people (Israel, Christians, everybody) most commonly with the female / wife role? Is there a message in this somewhere?

  9. July 5, 2007 14:33

yes. the message is that man is speaking for god and using gender imagery to control his fellow man ::

+controlling women across the board by making the dominant gender identification male

+controlling men by putting them in the role of women (see above) when relating to god and the clergy (ie calling a priest *father* for example)

(in other words, god is NOT *self* identifying with the male gender. we did that. go back and look at the oldest *hebrew* names for god and you will find that fully half of them are entirely feminine :: el shaddai being perhaps the most well known of these-courtesy of amy grant)

(of course, the *original* *hebrew* people were actually duotheistic, much in the manner of modern wiccans today, worshiping both a god and a goddess)
