for my Wife

June 13, 2007

since my demotion @ work, my wife has been working a lot of overtime.

of course, my work does not allow unnecessary OT, so i have not been working extra.

being the traditional sort, this bugs the hell out of me.

we are at the point where we are constantly walking the edge of the knife, robbing peter to pay paul.

it’s been a true stressfest.

so, yesterday it occurred to me that even if i can’t help any more financially, i can get things straight around the house.

with three kids that is a constant battle, but school is out now, and i had a day off, so i rounded up those three kids and we set too with a will today.

not only did we deep clean everything, we rearranged furniture that has not been moved in over a year, resetting the dining room, my office, the living room, and my bedroom (as well as thoroughly cleaning every other room).

in the midst of all that i got my daughter started on making dinner.

she had asked earlier in the morning when i started thawing the chicken if she could help, but (with a little instruction from dad) she ended up making the whole thing :: lemon pepper chicken, twice baked potatoes (loaded), young peas and baby carrots, and a fresh pitcher of homemade iced tea.

all of which was delicious.

normally, i would have spent the day blogging or reading or somesuch, but i found this so much more satisfying.

right now my wife and three kids are bundled in our king sized bed, each reading a book (i took several pictures – i’ll try to post those tomorrow).

the puppies have graduated to the next sized cage and are sleeping comfortably behind me. (my son spent an hour under my bed clearing out all the things they have secretly been chewing on since we got them).

the dinner dishes are done

and my world just feels right for a change.

It’s so nice when things just feel “right”.

Sounds like you had a full day, but there weren’t any complaints. That’s good. Good for you and the kids. Hope you have a great weekend with them, Father’s Day an’ all!

i actually have to work father’s day (and their natural father gets them that day anyway) but the past two days have more than made up for it.

    one day to work

    one day to play

two days to just kinda bask in the whole *family* thing

    it’s been good.

Oh, be careful with cleaning beneath the bed, dearies! Feng shui has it that if you want to make baby, that is the place to keep clean!

(Kick some dust bunnies under there).

hrm – well, puppy chewed maxi-pads (fresh from the box, thank god) are not quite *dust bunnies*

and i doubt feng shui trumps tubes-tied
