I like that comment. I also think that gay couples should have the same rights as married heterosexual couples and that they should be allowed to get married- regardless of the fact that many believe that marriage should only be between two parties of the opposite sex.
But one has to ask the question, what happens if someone used to be a certain gender and then changed it before getting married?
Would they be allowed to just because of their current situation or would they be denied because of what they used to be?

    *shrug*

what WOULD happen and what SHOULD happen are probablly 2 totally different things, but my personal stance is this :: marriage should be a union between two PEOPLE. gender should not be an issue.

to add a caveat to that, i do believe legal age and capability of informed consent SHOULD be deciding factors.

the running joke @ my house (since my wife used to be married to a gay man and had 3 wonderful kids with him) is that gays CAN legally marry. they just can’t marry each other.

making same sex marriage illegal is both arbitrary and stupid.

i actually read today (in the course of watching one of miss cho’s videos, in fact) where a guy argued that because the latin word for matrimony precluded same sex unions and since latin predated christianity that obviously homosexuals were never ever to get married.

no, i didn’t follow that logic either.

i include it here only as an example of the ignorance this whole debate is collectively up against.

    end rant.

perhaps i’ll do some research and write a post on the topic.

thank you for the well thought out comment.
